Build two of these.
Place the second piece of X alongside the first one, then mark where the two pieces cross.

Cut the second piece along the marked lines.
Attach the base to the underside of the tabletop boards using ample screws.
Sand the entire coffee table, remove all residue, then prime and paint or stain.
