Make a loop in a separate piece of macrame and hook it around the straight piece of yarn.
Use a slip knot loop to start the process.
Step Two
Continue looping the yarn for 12 rows, alternating the strands of ropes.
This will make the first of five triangles in your pentagon.

Repeat the looping process for 12 rows.
Step Four
Repeat the process you followed in step two to make the next triangle.
Continue this around the pentagon until you have made five sides.

Step Six
Cut off all the loose ends from the back of the coaster.
