One approach thats perfect for beginners is working with a fabric strip.
Quilting with precut strips is so much fun because of the endless possibilities you could design.

Prepare all the needed materials.
Divide the fabric strips into groups of four.
Light and dark strips alternate with each other.
Be as creative as you go and sew each strip together.
When youre done sewing everything in groups of four, pair two groups and lay them right sides together.
Mark 812inches and cut across to make a square block.
Set aside the excess fabric.
Working on the block, cut across diagonally.
Then, sew both fabrics along a14inch seam along with the diagonal cut.
When done, bring up the fabric and neatly press with an iron to set the seam.
Repeat with all the other block fabrics.
Lastly, sew the4blocks together and neatly press them.
Whatever you do, you will surely be happy looking at the result of your hardwork.
